Photographer, Benjamin Von Wong has created some pretty impressive art installations. Take a look at some of his work:
This art installation is made of plastic cups!
Do you consider this recycling?
Benjamin uses this beautiful installation as a way to shed light on the ugly truth of the real world:“We are surrounded by plastic garbage!”
According to researchers, by 2050, about 12 billion tons of plastic will be thrown into the environment.
The average life span of plastic products is only 25 minutes, but the natural degradation time in the ocean is often decades to hundreds of years.
In 2018, at the European Gastroenterology Conference in Vienna, researchers announced they detected microplastics in every stool sample from a number of marine animals worldwide. This research clearly shows that microplastics have not only infiltrated the world’s oceans but also all of the many organisms within it.
Striking numbers show that plastic particles can be found in the bodies of over 50% of the world’s population!
To raise awareness of the dangers of single-use plastic, Benjamin created a plastic “world” himself.
Benjamin, alongside volunteers in Singapore, spent 2 14-hour days, picking up discarded plastic cups. Together they collected over 18,000 plastic cups and one by one, they connected each one with an LED light inside.
The finished installation was named:
Plastikophobia.
Pictures of animals surrounded by plastic in their natural habitat have gone viral on the Internet, shedding a brief light on the dangers but have failed to touch the hearts of people enough to really do something.
Benjamin thought, “perhaps if they are surrounded by plastic waste themselves, they will feel the fear and pain these animals feel daily”.
Upon entering, they realize, “omg this is all plastic! How horrible!”
In addition, Benjamin works with electronic brands creating large surreal sculptures using nearly 2 tons of recycled e-waste.

He also recycled 170,000 single-use straws from Starbucks. Arranging them according to the color classification, the device is woven into a huge sea and spray.
