On May 11, Huang Chenghao, a mechanical engineering student at Jiangxi Vocational College of Industry & Engineering, and 3 other students took a trip to the mountainous area near their school in Pingxiang.
While in the mountains, they found a rock inlaid with 6 round items. They searched and searched online for relevant pictures to determine what it is and their conclusion was, it must be a dinosaur egg fossil.
They returned to town and reported it to the Jiangxi Pingxiang Museum. The museum immediately organized a group of professionals to visit the location. After identification, it is indeed dinosaur egg fossils!
While at the site, the staff of the Pingxiang Museum Collection Preservation Department also collected a few other individual dinosaur egg fossils in the vicinity. The fossilized dinosaur eggs have been transported to Pingxiang Museum.
According to experts, the dinosaur egg fossil is from the late Cretaceous period. The fossils will be further cleaned and repaired by professionals.
Since 2002, a large number of dinosaur eggs and bones have been found in Pingxiang, Jiangxi province. Researchers say this suggests that the site was a breeding ground for different groups of dinosaurs. The discovery of these eggs provides more material for paleontology research.
Many Chinese netizens said these students have a great eye, “if these eggs were in front of me, I might not have even know what they are and wouldn’t even research online!”
