China’s Newest “Crayfish” Major Goes Viral!

The first wave of graduates is entering their internship term of the second semester of sophomore year for their Crayfish Associates Degree.

Yes, you heard that right.

This major has attracted many Chinese netizens recently, so we thought we’d give you the inside scoop!

Hubei Jianghan Art Vocational College has been cultivating the crayfish industrial skills at a general level since 2017. This year they’ve expanded enrollment to 200 students and are now offering 3 majors; Crawfish Cooking Technology, Nutrition, and Catering Management and Marketing.

The Associates Degree course includes cooking skills courses, cultural courses, and practical operations to prepare students for a professional setting in management and marketing within the industry.

During their skills courses, students wear their chef uniforms every day to class and learn the In’s and outs of preparing crayfish dishes.

After graduation, a typical crayfish chef is expected to bring home a monthly salary ranging between RMB 7,000-20,000.

These students have already been booked by many companies.

But I think the most important question in all our minds is…

“Does this mean there’s an unlimited amount of crayfish while studying?!?”

“Students in our school can eat crayfish to an extent that they don’t want to anymore,” a staff member said with a laugh.

Seriously, we’re switching majors right now!
