This 6-day Old Baby Saved 3 Lives

“Happy children’s day, XiaoMaodou! Wish you all the best in heaven!”

On the afternoon of May 25, Huzhou Red Cross workers, volunteers, and XiaoMaodou’s family came to her grave and presented her with wreaths and toys. The head of the Red Cross in Huzhou gave a certificate and donation XiaoMaodou’s father.

Over a month ago in Huzhou, XiaoMaodou, a 6-day old girl suffocated and died. Her family participated in organ donation of her corneas and kidneys. These organs saved a critically ill patient and restored sight to 2 blind citizens.

This sweet little angel, XiaoMaodou has become one of the youngest organ donors in Zhejiang province.

Like all children, Xiaomaodou was supposed to have a wonderful life. Her father, Xiaomao and mother, Feifei, were very loving and kind.

“Feifei is a kindergarten teacher and she loves children very much. Before she was pregnant, she often went to the welfare home on her days off to teach children there. She often told me how unfortunate it was that children were abandoned by their families. She always wanted to help them more.” Xiaomao said of his wife’s help. He, also often went to welfare homes to do volunteer work and participate in various public welfare activities with her.

Feifei would tell stories to her baby while she was still in the womb and often ask her husband to talk to her belly. “We imagined the baby’s future every day and gave her the nickname ‘Xiaomaodou’. We hoped she would be a happy and kind person in the future.”

Shortly after 3am on April 18, Mao and his friends were waiting outside the surgery room for the baby to be born. However, because of amniotic fluid embolism, the baby was admitted to intensive care. The doctor said that the child was dying because of severe asphyxiation.

Xiaomaodou and her father held hands for the first and only time.

On April 24, Mao signed the registration form of Chinese organ donation and the consent form for surgery.

Xiaomaodou, who was born just six days’ prior, received an organ donation operation to donate a pair of corneas and a pair of kidneys to people who had never known each other and were waiting for the hope of life.

Before entering the operating room, Mao kissed his daughter’s cheek and left Feifei’s handmade pig toy with her. He hopes, in another world, Xiaomaodou and her mother will meet again.

He is convinced that his daughter’s life will continue in another form. Though her life did not blossom, it has a new meaning by providing life and saving others.

A sad and touching story and a reminder of the greatness of one’s life. Xiamaodou is watching over her family now as their guardian angel.
