Typically, when we hear of overweight children, we think of parents who let their children overeat and children with no self-control.
However, this boy’s reason for overeating is so touching.
11-year-old Lu Zikuan gained 20 pounds in the last 3-months and unlike most of us, he is very proud. He works hard to gain weight and hopes to be ‘fatter, fatter, and a little bit fatter!”.
Lu’s Children’s Day wish: “eat more food to reach 100 pounds, so I can donate bone marrow to my father”.
Lu Zikuanshould have had a carefree happy life at his age but when his father was diagnosed with leukemia 7 years ago, all of that changed.
The only way for his father to survive is by a bone marrow transplant. Lu is the perfect bone marrow donor and was more than willing to step up for his father.
In the beginning, his father strongly disagreed. “My son is too young. I’m afraid of how it’ll affect his body and mind. I am old enough to not be afraid, but his life has just begun. I don’t want to drag him down!”.
Lu and his mother believe there is no other option, they cannot live without him. “I am not afraid to transplant hematopoietic stem cells to my father.”
When Lu’s father finally agreed, a new problem arose. Lu’s weight is not up to the standard. The doctor said the child must reach the minimum standard of 90 pounds but the heavier the better.
After hearing this from the doctor, Lu understands what he needs to do: eat more to save his father’s life.
Lu’s starting weight was just a little over 60 pounds.
Now he’s over 80 pounds!
Classmates said Lu is fat as pie and Lu’s father feels bad but Lu still thinks it’s all worth it!
What a sweet strong boy! Look at the smile on his face. So moved.
Hope he reaches his weight soon and they can overcome these difficult times.
We all wish the best for Lu and his father!
