Years may wrinkle the skin, but not the soul. To Zhang Qian, her 87-year-old grandmother Luo is someone still full of youthful vitality.
As Grandma Luo likes taking photos and has even become a dab hand at taking selfies, Zhang decided to take pictures with her as a present for “Girl’s Day”, a festival celebrated by unmarried Chinese girls.
“Though my grandma is 87 years old, she still makes sure her thin hair is perfectly shaped with mousse. She says she looks fresh and neat that way,” Zhang said.
“I often visit her on weekends, and she starts to ask about my next visit every Wednesday,” Zhang said, adding that her grandma’s tone of voice is just like that of a young girl when she calls to say how much she misses her.
At the photo studio, Zhang chose a pair of bunny ears for her grandmother to wear during the shoot.
“At first, we thought Grandma Luo wouldn’t like to wear bunny ears as she might think they were too childish. However, it turned out that she was adorable with those little ears on,” said the photographer Xiaobao.
“During the three-hour shoot, Grandma Luo wore the bunny ears and ate chips with peace and happiness in her eyes. She was like an innocent young girl,” Xiaobao added.
When asked if she liked the present from her granddaughter, Grandma Luo said happily, “Of course, I love all the photos. I can’t wait for them to come out so that I can hang them in my home.”
“Due to a previous illness, my grandma can now only walk with a stick. However, she has always been positive about life. She is the person that laughs the most in my family,” Zhang said.
Grandma Luo suffered hardships when she was young, noted Zhang, disclosing that Luo has had a happy life since she met her husband, who has loved her tenderly all these years.
“Now that we have grown up, as her grandchildren, we want to create more surprises for her. I hope my grandmother will always be carefree and full of youthful energy,” Zhang added.
